THE NORTHERN WIND
(Forbes/Hudson/James/Pilt)
as the setting sun
runs through the trees
enhancing the evening’s greener hills
the tallest tree stands
emblazoned by light
the stream runs fire
and it all feels still until the morning
when the northern wind comes
when she bends old river gums
and beats them like drumbeats
on an open ground
she runs through the cane
hums through the wheat
summons long grass people
she passes on her heat
through the open plain
running through the cane
driving steamy rain
relentless drumbeats
takes the energy away
dust on the highway
the long grass people have no rest
the northern wind is on her annual quest
running through the cane
humming through the wheat
summons long grass people
passing on her heat
running through the cane
humming through the wheat
summons long grass people
passing on her heat

RAIN IS CHAMPAGNE
(Forbes/Hudson/James/Pilt)
father come quickly
look up to the sky
the colours
are changing
look into your fields of rye
a samurai tends to his bonsai
a rabbi raises his hands to the sky
bless the god of rain
the rain is champagne
deserts turn to floodplain
the rain is champagne
the farmer’s in a seaplane!
and the rain
the rain is champagne

SATELLITES OF PAPER LACE
(Forbes/Hudson/Pilt)
satellites of paper lace
fall to earth without a trace
set alight in the marketplace
more rebirth in the human race
satellites of paper lace
fall to earth without a trace
what a terrible waste
set alight in the marketplace
more rebirth in the human race
just cut-and-paste
human weapons
mad assassins
it’s their religion
a sad disgrace
human weapons
mad assassins
it’s their religion
a sad disgrace
but you ….
you are the colours of a raindrop
dancing lights in unison
dazzling diamond on an opal leaf
that’s my comparison
you have the virtue of Venishnu
smooth and sweet relief
smoother than the morning dew
that’s my belief
you have the virtue of Venishnu
smooth and sweet relief
smoother than the morning dew
that’s my belief
you have the virtue of Venishnu

CARBON TRADING
(Forbes/Hudson/Pilt)
so you think we came
down from the trees
so you think we came
from Adam and Eve
so you think its been
spacemen invading
so you think its all
been a disease
so you think that we
crawled from the sea
so you believe in evolution
creation and retribution
carbon trading revolution
dealing in pollution
when will we fall
carbon trading
biodegrading
carbon trading
biodegrading

SEA WIND SPRAY
(Forbes/James/Pilt)
take time to consider
some of the marvels in life
take care to remember
envisualise the things we leave behind
sea wind spray lashes
regardless of time
sea wind spray lashes
regardless of time
standing on a starry-green hill
in the darkness of space
playing among the colours
of a small garden
it’s a big space
sea wind spray lashes
regardless of time
sea wind spray lashes
regardless of time

DEGROOT
(Forbes/Hudson/James/Pilt)
it was the grand opening
public mood wasn’t joking
on the coathanger today
when something happened
caught everyone napping
Captain Francis De Groot
slashed the opening ribbon
two ways..
with his cavalry sword
waving in his hands
proud of the deed he did today
a moment that lapsed
no reason
this was going to be
his touche
he looked Premier Lang
in the eye
said…. you’ll never have
this bridge in your name
I claim it in the name
of the King
this will be my touche
no coup today
no coup d’etat
as the journalist
later reflected
he has never seen
the city
change this way
no coup today
no coup d’etat

THE RECONCILIATION SONG
(Forbes/Hudson/James/Pilt)
half a million walk
across Sydney’s bridge
now we can talk
about heritage
throw off that guilt
time to dance and sing
clear the river’s silt
reconcile me
I’ll reconcile you
reconcile me
I’ll reconcile you
wait a while for me
I’ll wait a while for you
power of the bridge
made of toil in steel
now we acknowledge
come time to heal
with this knowledge
there is no divide
on the voyage
we salvage our pride
reconcile me ..
I’ll reconcile you
reconcile me ..
I’ll reconcile you
I’ll wait a while for you

THIS LAND
(Forbes/Hudson/James/Pilt)
he turns to his son
we live with this land
as you pass on
you will understand
all you see here is fixed
and you are a soul
this is our land
constantly changing
and it just repeats itself
while you walk on this land,
mountains of time
move slowly past you
through mist and rains
and it just repeats itself
he turns to his son
we live with this land
as you pass on
you will understand
and it just repeats itself
and it just repeats itself
while you walk on this land,
watch it move slowly past you
and it just repeats itself
and it just repeats itself
